WHY shouldn’t we eat snow?
Eating snow is generally considered safe, as long as it is clean and not contaminated with pollutants or harmful bacteria. However, there are a few reasons why it is not recommended to eat snow as a source of hydration.
First, snow is actually very low in water content, so you would need to eat a large amount of it to stay hydrated. This can also lead to a lowering of body temperature.
Second, eating snow can lower your core body temperature, which can be dangerous in cold weather conditions. As your body warms the snow, it causes heat loss and can lead to hypothermia.
Third, Snow can also contain pollutants such as lead, mercury and other heavy metals, as well as bacteria and viruses if it is contaminated with feces or other waste materials.
In emergency survival situations, if no other sources of water are available, it may be necessary to melt snow to obtain drinking water, but it should be purified before consumption. In other cases, it is best to avoid eating snow and instead focus on finding a safe and reliable source of water.
